2018 RAM Mega Cab to Potentially Make Comeback

Back in April, a test mule of the 2018 RAM 1500 with a Mega Cab body was spotted. This fueled immense speculation about the revival of the Mega Cab's body for the pickup.

A new prototype has just been spotted. This one, though, is covered with camouflage throughout certain sections of its body. The mule spotted in April had camouflage completely covering its rear tailgate. This led to talks of a possible modified, split tailgate. The latest images, though, show that this probably will not be the case. Instead, the rear will likely have a standard tailgate more or less similar to the 2016 RAM 1500.

It is believed that FCA US LLC is trying to attract a larger demographic to the RAM pickup by offering a more diverse range of body styles. If speculations are indeed true, then the RAM brand will be the only auto maker to have an extra-large cab variant for its half-ton pickup segment.

The 2018 RAM 1500 is also expected to have a few other extras, such as the addition of the UConnect 3.0, which represents the latest infotainment system under the FCA US LLC umbrella.

Other possible changes include the use of lighter-weight materials, likely aluminum, to reduce weight and improve fuel economy. Spy shots also caught a quick glimpse of the interior, and it reveals a steering wheel similar to the one on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan.

The 2018 RAM 1500 is tentatively slated for a late 2017 release. The all-new RAM Heavy Duty, likely a 2019 model, will be released a year after.
