The 2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee has something to boast about. It just earned a perfect five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The SUV earned 5 stars in three categories. This includes side impact with another vehicle, frontal collision with another vehicle, and side impact with a stationary object, such as a pole.

FCA US LLC really built the Jeep Grand Cherokee with safety in mind. Additions like a tire pressure monitoring display, trailer sway damping, and electronic stability and traction control are all standard for the 2017 model. To top it off, the full-size SUV is also fitted with advanced multi-stage airbags. A knee-bolster airbag is also added on the driver's side.

Buyers can enhance the safety with optional add-ons like automatic emergency braking. This is an advanced system that uses a radar and camera to assess the probability of a collision. If a crash is deemed to be imminent, then the brakes are automatically applied if the driver fails to take any actions. This technology can bring the vehicle to a full stop at speeds under 25 mph. NHTSA even listed the automatic emergency braking as its preferred technology.

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is not the only car under FCA US LLC to take home a perfect NHTSA rating. The 2017 Dodge Challenger received a few five-star ratings as well, as did the 2017 Chrysler 200.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is really off to a strong start. Aside from its stellar safety rating, speculations have also arisen of the 2018 model possibly getting torque vectoring control.
